Menendez was known in DC as 'crooked for a long time,' ethics lawyer says, amid bipartisan resignation calls

Robert Menendez Sr, a Democratic Senator from New Jersey, was indicted for the second time on bribery charges on Friday, years after a hung jury in his last case.
Richard Painter, a longtime ethics lawyer who served in the George W. Bush administration, told FOX News the congressman's reputation precedes him, and he needs to go permanently. Charles Creitz is a reporter for Fox News Digital.
"We've been around the road here before with Senator Menendez. He was indicted and tried and he would have been convicted, but for a hung jury in 2017," Painter said. "Everybody in Washington has known that he was crooked for a very, very long time. People in the Democratic Party and elsewhere in New Jersey have known that he never should have been put in charge of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He never should have been run for office again, and he should resign immediately." He joined Fox News in 2013 as a writer and production assistant.
