A viral video of Bhagwan Mali playing old Hindi film songs on his violin on the empty streets of Kolkata went viral after a man uploaded it on social media. Kolkata Police has now gifted him a violin.
Fate brought Bhagwan Mali to Kolkata a month before the coronavirus-induced travel restrictions were imposed leading to a lockdown-like situation in the state. Mali, who arrived from Malda with his wife Sarita, to take care of his then-pregnant daughter, got stuck in Kolkata. With no place to stay and no work at hand, he did what fed him throughout his life, played the violin.
