Man killed in chemical blast in Hyderabad's Afzalgunj

A man died and his father sustained injuries in a suspected chemical blast in Hyderabad's Afzalgunj on Sunday morning. The father of the deceased is undergoing treatment and his condition is critical.
Panic gripped Hyderabad's Maharajgunj area of Afzalgunj on Sunday morning after a young man died and his father sustained injuries in a suspected chemical blast. The incident happened at Maharajgunj area in Hyderabad in Mogaram Basti under Afzalganj police station limits at 10 am today.
According to police, the victim, identified as Bharath Bhatter, was running a chemical business and had been disposing expired chemicals into a drain in front of his shop. On Sunday morning, he had stuffed loads of expired chemicals in the manhole and was trying to clear them with the help of an iron rod.
The drainline was choked and the victim used a stick to clear it when the mishap happened. While Bharath was trying to put expired chemicals into the sewerage manhole, the blast happened and he died on the spot. His father Venugopal and another man sustained injuries during the chemical blast and they are undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital. The condition of his father is said to be critical.
Upon receiving the information, the police and forensic team reached the spot and collected the chemicals and sent them to a forensic lab for examination. A case has been registered and further police investigation is underway.
