Amid the escalating political tensions in Maharashtra, prohibitory orders have been issued in Thane, which is rebel MLA Eknath Shinde's stronghold, fearing violence. The order is valid till June 30.
Carrying sticks, arms, burning posters, burning effigies, carrying any kind of arms, explosives have been completely banned and no slogans or songs on speakers are allowed.
The order states that in order to maintain the law and order situation in Thane, the district collector and district magistrate have issued a prohibitory order of 24 hours till June 30.
On Friday, Shiv Sena supporters threw black ink and eggs at rebel MLA Eknath Shinde's poster, and also raised slogans against him in Nasik.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Maharashtra. On Thursday, a poster of rebel MLA Sada Sarvankar, who was camping in Guwahati with rebel party leader Eknath Shinde at the time, was smeared with ink and the word 'traitor' written on it.
The incident occurred in his own constituency of Mahim. Prior to this, a group of Shiv Sena women supporters took to the streets of Aurangabad on Wednesday, calling the rebel camp's MLAs "traitors who sold the faith of voters."
Meanwhile, the political turmoil in Maharashtra further deepened as more MLAs joined the Shinde camp, mounting trouble for CM Uddhav Thackeray. Maharashtra Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal will send notices to 16 rebel MLAs including minister Eknath Shinde tomorrow after Shiv Sena sought the disqualification of some Sena legislators for not attending the legislature party meeting on Wednesday, sources said.
