A high-powered delegation of the Maharashtra cabinet, led by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to discuss a wide gamut of issues. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and PWD minister Ashok Chavan will be part of the delegation. Prominent among the 12 subjects up for debate is the long-standing matter of Maratha reservation. Last month, Thackeray wrote to PM Modi, requesting him to take steps to declare the Maratha community as ‘Socially and Educationally Backward’ so they may be eligible to claim 12 per cent reservation in education and 13 per cent quota in government jobs. The issue of Maratha reservation rose to the fore earlier in May this year, when the Supreme Court struck down the reservation in public sector and educational institutions for the community brought in by the Maharashtra government in 2018, as it exceeded the 50 per cent cap imposed earlier.More Related News
