The biennial elections to three Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council seats — one each from East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur graduates, and Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam teachers constituencies — ended without any untoward incident on Thursday.
In all, 70 candidates were in the fray. Thirty-five candidates contested in the East-West Godavari graduates constituency, 25 in Krishna-Guntur graduates constituency, and 10 in Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam teachers constitueny.
The polling percentage at the time of conclusion of the elections (4 p.m.) in East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur graduates’ constituencies was 63.28% and 65.58%, while it was 91.82% in Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam teachers constituency.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav personally monitored the polling by keeping in regular touch with the District Collectors concerned while obtaining constant feedback through webcasting and videography.
TDP’s Alapati Rajendra Prasad and Progressive Democratic Front’s K.S. Lakshman Rao were the prominent candidates who were in the race.
