India Today
The first reviews of Laal Singh Chaddha are out now! The international media stood divided as some felt the film was a fitting tribute to Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump, while others called Aamir Khan's acting a 'parody'.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is all set to release on August 11. Prior to the release date, the international media reviewed the film. While the final result is mostly in the affirmative, we noticed a mixed take on Aamir Khan’s performance as Laal. However, Kareena Kapoor Khan as Rupa managed to garner praise.
A day before Laal Singh Chaddha's release, the international media reviewed the film. Barring a few hits and misses, the reviews are mostly positive. However, Aamir Khan's performance in the film has been termed as a 'parody' by The Wrap. In its review, it said, "Not that Tom Hanks’ performance as Forrest could ever be hailed as a paragon of subtle acting, but Khan’s interpretation of the character borders on parody. The exaggerated facial expressions and laughter read as disparagingly theatrical, even if that’s not their intent."
It further mentioned, "His unspecified condition endows him not with a strong moral compass that he’s conscious of, but with an obliviousness to move through the world without noticing most of its malice. And as much as the creators of either version might believe this to be a loving and flattering portrayal, in truth it has always been reductive and condescending."
Indie Wire reviewed the film as, "Laal Singh Chaddha might still be as fitfully mawkish as "Gump" in its tendency toward brazen sentimentality, but is a film more deliberately rooted in philosophies of gentleness. It is the superior version." Talking about Kareena Kapoor Khan's character as Rupa, it says, "Laal Singh Chaddha permits Rupa a great deal more humanity."
Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, featuring Tom Hanks. The Advait Chandan directorial also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. It marks the Bollywood debut of South actor Naga Chaitanya. Laal Singh Chaddha was earlier scheduled for Baisakhi release, but the makers postponed the film's release date to August 11, 2022.
