Kolkata: Three arrested in Bhawanipore couple murder case

A couple was found murdered at their home in Kolkata's Bhawanipore area on Monday. Police have arrested three accused till now in connection with the case.
Kolkata Police has arrested three accused till now in the high-profile Bhawanipore couple murder case which was reported on Monday. The third accused was arrested on Thursday from Orissa, following which he was brought to Kolkata.
As per Kolkata Police sources, the third accused is being termed as the sharpshooter who was hired to murder the elderly couple who have been identified as Ashok Shah (56) and his wife Rashmita Shah (52).
Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal on Thursday addressed a press conference at police headquarters in Lalbazar in connection with the Bhawanipore couple murder case.
While three accused have been arrested, the main conspirator among relatives has not been arrested yet, he said, adding that the accused who stabbed Mr Shah first has been arrested.
The accused have been identified as Jatin Maheta, Ratnakar Nath, Subodh Kumar.
Probe suggests that the brother of the prime accused of this case had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh in 2019 from Ashok Shah. But he died due to Covid. However, Shah was demanding his money back from the accused, triggering disputes between them. Enraged, the man allegedly murdered the couple in a well planned manner.
A businessman and his wife, both hailing from a Gujarati business family based out of Kolkata, were found murdered at their home in the Bhawanipore area on Monday. There were stab injuries on the bodies.
