The Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to Uttar Pradesh government to stop demolition drives undertaken without following due process of law.
The civil administration in Prayagraj and Saharanpur had razed houses of accused involved in violent protests against remarks on Prophet Muhammad by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
The application has sought directions to initiate action against officials responsible for the houses being demolished in violation of the rule of law.
According to the Muslim organisation, the present situation is more alarming as the Supreme Court had already ordered a stay of demolitions that were being carried out as a punitive measure in Northwest Delhi in similar circumstances.
The house of Mohammed Javed, the 'main accused' in the Prayagraj clashes, was razed down on Sunday. Mohammad Javed alias Javed Pump was identified as the main conspirator behind the violence and was arrested.
Top officials told India Today that Javed has links to the Welfare Party of India (WPI) after a flag of the organisation was recovered from his residence.
The head of WPI is Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, father of former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, who was one of the conspirators of Delhi 2020 riots.
