A three-member team from the Delhi Crime branch arrived in East Midnapore in West Bengal on Friday to interrogate Ansar’s relatives in relation to riots that broke out in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.
Mohammed Ansar has been named as the main conspirator in Jahangirpuri violence by the Delhi police. The 35-year-old Ansar is a West Bengal native who now resides in the national capital.
He has past criminal records and the police also found Ansar, along with Sonu Sheikh , another accused in the case, to own outlandish luxury cars, including a high-end BMW, among others.
The Delhi crime branch visited the house where Ansar’s aunt still lived. Jannatul Bibi, Ansar’s aunt, said, “Ansar's mother Aznatul was born here and she was married in Delhi to a person named Sheikh Alauddin who was from Bihar. Don't know from where in Bihar. Ansar's parents lived in Delhi. Zaid is the son of Ansar's own brother who lived in Delhi and died a few years back. They used to come during festivals, stay for a few hours and leave. I have visited them in Delhi too."
On the instructions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Delhi Police slapped the National Security Act (NSA) against Ansar and four others for their alleged role in the violence.
After a preliminary enquiry, the Enforcement Directorate is also likely to file a case against Ansar and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
A clash broke out between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area on April 16. According to the police, stones were pelted and some vehicles torched in the violence. Nine people, including police personnel, were injured after communal clashes had broken out in Jahangirpuri. The investigation of the clashes has been handed over to the Crime Branch and 14 teams have been formed so far to probe the case.
