INS Airavat receives distress after Port Blair-based fishing boat reports defect in gearbox

The INS Airavat received a distress call after a Port Blair-based fishing boat requested assistance.

INS Airavat received a distress call from Port Blair-based fishing vessel Saleth Matha II off Carnicobar, Andaman, and Nicobar Islands at 11 pm on Friday, wherein the crew members of the fishing boat requested assistance after reporting a defect in the gearbox. The ship was transiting through the area whilst on its return from Jakarta, Indonesia post-delivery of Covid-19 relief material as part of Ops Samudra Setu II.
