For the Mumbai Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), it is a murder case discovered accidentally when a police team was probing an illegal arms case. The accused in the Sheena Bora murder case is her mother Indrani Mukerjea, a former media executive.

According to Mumbai Police, Sheena Bora was allegedly kidnapped and murdered in 2012. The case was registered against four people including Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea.
