India vs England: Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta backed Virat Kohli's decision to bat at No. 4 in T20I cricket but pointed out that the batting combination might change when Ravindra Jadeja returns from injury and takes his place in the XI.
Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta said he likes the idea of Virat Kohli batting at No. 4 in T20Is, especially after the addition of big-hitters Suryakmar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in the T20i set-up. Dasgupta pointed out that the skipper can control the innings in the middle order, given his ability to adapt to situations better than most in the shortest format of the game. Virat Kohli began the T20I series at the No. 3 spot but failed to get going in the opening match. However, he roared back to form with a match-winning 73 not out in the 2nd T20I. Despite regaining form, Kohli dropped himself to No. 4 to accommodate Ishan Kishan in the 3rd T20I after Rohit Sharma joined KL Rahul at the top of the order. Kohli continued to bat at No. 4 in the 4th T20I too as Suryakumar Yadav replaced an injured Kishan at No. 3. Kohli proved his versatility by coming up with a classy 77 off just 46 albeit in a losing cause in the 3rd T20I. India are likely to continue with the same combination as Suryakumar will provide that extra firepower at the top for the series decider on Saturday. Kohli also has the cushion to go big if the situation demands, considering India have the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya bat after the India skipper.More Related News
