ICC ODI Rankings: Pakistan moved to the 4th spot, leapfrogging arch-rivals India after beating West Indies 3-0 in an ODI series at home on Sunday, June 12.
Pakistan overtook India to go to the 4th spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI Rankings for men's national teams, updated on Monday, June 13. Babar Azam-led team's rise came after they blanked West Indies 3-0 in a home series on Sunday.
Before the start of the series, Pakistan were placed fifth in the rankings with a rating of 102. But the 3-0 clean sweep over the West Indies boosted them to No.4 with a rating of 106, leaving India behind at 105.
India defeated West Indies 3-0 at home but they lost to South Africa 0-3 in South Africa earlier this year. KL Rahul, who led the team in the said series, had a forgettable outing in the Rainbow Nation as India lost all 4 matches under his captaincy, 3 in the ODIs, and one Test as stand-in captain.
Notably, India is yet to win an international match against South Africa in 2022, going 0-7 so far. The Asian giants are trailing 2-0 in a 5-match T20I series against the Proteas at home.
Pakistan have had a brilliant run in ODIs in the recent past, thanks to their captain Babar Azam, who has been breaking records at will in the 50-over format of the game. Pakistan are 5-1 in ODIs in 2022 after having beaten Australia 2-1 and west Indies 3-0 at home.
With his recent century in the first match against West Indies, he became the first batter to score three consecutive ODI centuries twice, having previously achieved the feat in 2016 as well.
And with a fifty in the second ODI, he broke the world record for most consecutive 50+ scores (9) in men's international cricket across all formats.
