Hyderabad teen gang-rape: Fifth accused still at large

9 days on, the fifth accused in the Hyderabad teen gang-rape case is still on the run.
More than a week after the registration of an FIR in the Hyderabad minor gang-rape case, police have not been able to nab the fifth accused.
“On May 31 when the FIR was registered, the fifth accused, the 18-year-old nephew of a local MLA, Umair, along with his family, had left for Ooty on a vacation. We sent a team via air, but by the time it reached the location, they had left for Hyderabad. The distance between our team and their vehicle was only 25 km,” said a top officer privy to the investigation.
“We took the help of Karnataka and Andhra Police but could not succeed,’’ the officer said.
However, the officer said he would get caught soon as the police had specific leads.
A 17-year-old girl was gang-raped in a car by a group of five youths in Telangana's Hyderabad on Saturday, May 28.
Two days after the incident, around 7.30 pm, when DCP Joel Devis returned to his office after finishing meetings, he found two men waiting for him. Both were called inside his chamber and within minutes the west zone DCP realised the seriousness of the matter.
The survivor's father, who was one of the visitors, showed evidence and alleged harassment and molestation of his minor daughter that took place inside a red-coloured Mercedes-Benz when she was returning home after attending a party hosted by her friends.
