Gujarat: 2 women attacked with acid in alleged act of revenge; father-son duo arrested

Two women, aged 27 and 37 years old, were attacked with acid in an alleged act of revenge in Gujarat.
Two women were attacked with acid in Gujarat’s Amreli district in an alleged act of revenge. The police arrested a father-don duo in connection with the attack.
The women, aged 27 and 37 years old, were returning home from a hospital on Sunday night when they were allegedly attacked by the two men in Amreli’s Savarkundla town.
Following the acid attack, the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. Afterwards, the police took their statements and then arrested a father-son duo who lives in the same neighborhood as the victims.

As per the police, the crime was an act of “revenge”. In January 2021, an FIR was lodged against a man for allegedly raping a woman in Savarkundla town. The police said that the two victims of the acid attack are the daughter and daughter-in-law of the rape accused, while the perpetrators are the husband and son of the rape victim.
Nirlipt Rai, superintendent of police, Amreli said, “Based on the complaint by the victims, we lodged an FIR against the father-son duo under IPC 328A and arrested them on Monday. The victims have suffered 15-30 per cent burn injuries that are not on the face and the pregnant woman is out of danger. Further investigation is on in the case.”
