India Today
It is clear as day that the Governor is playing clear politics, the mouthpiece said, adding that Arif Mohammad Khan has once again proved that the post of Governor is redundant.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan is trying to make up for the BJP's lack of representation in the state with his position, read the editorial of the Communist Party of India (CPI)’s mouthpiece, Janayugom.
“Arif Muhammad Khan, who came to the post of Governor of Kerala from the platform of Sangh Parivar, is again taking political stances and is continuing the move to put the administration of the state in crisis. He has tried to make Raj Bhavan a political platform before,” the editorial alleged.
“There are many examples of people trying to take a stick against the government without realizing it is a constitutional privilege and it has many limitations. As many as 11 ordinances were invalidated because the Governor did not sign them on time. By this, he tried to obstruct the administration. Many ordinances were issued with the approval of the Governor”, the editorial said.
11 important ordinances, including the Lokayukta Amendment, were invalidated yesterday “due to unnecessary obstinacy”, it read. The ordinances were valid till midnight on Monday. After the repeal of the ordinances, the pre-existing laws will prevail.
It is clear as day that the Governor is playing clear politics in a mean way. Arif Mohammad Khan has once again proved that the post of Governor is redundant, the article further said.
On Tuesday, the Governor said that he would not blindly sign ordinances submitted by the government. The Governor did not accept the explanation given by the Chief Secretary on behalf of the government.
He took a stand that he will not accept the ordinance administration. Lawmaking should be done through the parliament, and ordinances should be issued only in emergency situations, Arif Muhammad Khan said. However, if the Governor signs the ordinances later, the amendment will be retroactive. Further action on this issue will be taken after the Governor reaches Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow.
