Glenn Maxwell has thanked Indian Premier League for his preparation against spin, something that has earned him a national call up in the Test team after 5 years.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Glenn Maxwell has thanked his time in the Indian Premier League for his ability against spin bowling. The unique ability of being one of the finest spin-playing batsmen in the world, let alone Australia, has earned the right-hander a call-back into the Test side against Sri Lanka.
Speaking about his time in the IPL, Maxwell said that the tired training pitches of Mumbai helped him in facing a myriad of challenges with spin bowling.
“I think training in IPL so regularly... being in a bubble during IPL really helped because there was no travel, so we had more time for training sessions," Maxwell said.
"Training wickets were extremely tired, they were spinning big, they were inconsistent and it was brilliant practice. That helped me coming into this series," he further added.
Maxwell had a stunning IPL 2022 with RCB and scored crucial knocks for his team. The right-hander did decently in the Australian white ball leg against Sri Lanka as well, batting quite low down the order.
Maxwell, if selected, Australia would hope to make the most of the chance given to him, since he has not been in the Test fold since 2017. Sri Lanka have done well in their home conditions and have choked out the visiting teams with their four-pronged spin attack. Australia found that troubling in the white-ball leg as well, losing the ODI leg of the series by 2-3 margin.
Glenn Maxwell will be a key selection for Australia, if they want to play more than one specialist pacer. In spin supporting conditions, Marnus Labuschange and Glenn Maxwell could turn out to be the x-factors of the team.
