Family members of B-Tech student Showkat Ganie, who hails from Bandipora in J&K, appealed to the Uttar Pradesh government to forgive him on humanitarian grounds after he was arrested for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans after the India-Pakistan T20 cricket match.
Showkat Ganie, 25, was among three engineering students from Kashmir who were arrested in Agra. The trio have been booked for sedition and remanded in 14-day judicial custody by an Agra court.
