ENG vs NZ, 2nd Test: Joe Root scored his 27th Test century and put England in a decent position in the second Test at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Joe Root, on Monday, June 13, played one of the most audacious strokes off a fast bowler one could ever imagine. The 31-year-old has been seeing the ball like a football in recent times and he hasn’t shied away from playing his strokes. In England’s first innings of the second Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Root carted Tim Southee for a six.
Root was batting on 164 when he churned out an unbelievable stroke. Southee bowled a good-length delivery outside the off-stump and Root reverse-scooped him over the third man boundary. The batter timed the ball with precision and left Southee and the Black Caps’ fielders stunned.
The shot was pretty reminiscent of the one Rishabh Pant played against Anderson and Jofra Archer during England’s tour of India back in March 2021.

Root went on to score 145 runs off 239 balls with the help of 13 fours and three sixes, helping England bring the first innings deficit down to 14. The 31-year-old Root also surpassed India’s Sunil Gavaskar and Pakistan’s Younis Khan to become the 12th highest run-scorer in the purest format.
