Did Centre write to Apple seeking compliance of iMessage with IT rules?
India Today
MeitY had reportedly written to Apple, seeking details on compliance with the new IT rules, specifically with respect to its proprietary messaging service. However, MeitY later withdrew that letter. What exactly has happened in this case?
On July 15, 2021, there was a report that, following the implementation of the New Intermediary Guidelines Rules, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has written to Apple, seeking details on compliance with the new rules, specifically with respect to its proprietary messaging service. The Ministry said that if a platform thinks it is not a significant social media intermediary, it must provide the reasons for the same. MeitY later withdrew that letter after Apple told it that iMessage is a messaging feature in its mobile device like every phone has and not an app that can be downloaded by any user.More Related News
