Delhi: Man kills live-in partner, cremates body; arrested

A 39-year-old man has been arrested by the police for strangulating his live-in partner to death and later cremating her body in order to erase evidence and escape police suspicion.
Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for killing his live-in partner and cremating her body at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi.
The deceased, identified as Preeti (35), was married and had three children but she had separated from her husband and had been living with the accused, Sandeep, for the past one year in Farsh bazar area.
It was on April 15, that police received a PCR call from Bholanath Nagar informing about the suspicious death of a woman in Farsh bazar area. Based on the information, police reached the spot, and found that Sandeep with his relatives had taken Preeti's body to Nigam Bodh Ghat for cremation.
Subsequently, police officials rushed to the spot only to find that the body had already been cremated.
Suspicious, police took Sandeep into custody and questioned him at length.
During interrogation, Sandeep initially tried to mislead the police by giving false information. He said that Preeti was a resident of Jaipur.
He even made a story to mislead the police and said, "On April 15, Preeti was not feeling well, following which we went to see a doctor and took medicine. However, after returning home, her health deteriorated and she expired."
