The sight of flyovers in Chennai turning into parking lots as a precautionary measure to safeguard vehicles especially cars from flooding, is back.

As Chennai city experienced heavy downpour since Saturday (November 30, 2024) morning, many areas have been inundated.
Based on past experiences during cyclones and floods in the city, that led to extensive damages and costly repair of vehicles, residents in flood-prone areas are now resorting to parking their vehicles on flyovers for safety.
It was only last month that scenes of cars and motorcycles being parked on Velachery flyovers and other flyovers across Chennai went viral in mid-October. The beeline of cars at Velachery flyovers is back on Saturday.
On the double-decker flyovers at Vijayanagar in Velachery, a long line of cars were parked on one side while the cars were parked were parked on either sides and along the median at the old flyover near Velachery MRTS station.
