The General Authority of Customs (GAC) is constantly working to raise the level of Customs intelligence as well as efforts to combat smuggling in line with its 2018-2022 strategic plan, a senior official has said. Talking to Qatar TV, Aisha al-Jasmi, director of the Customs Intelligence System and Development of Anti-Smuggling Operations and Mechanisms at GAC, said the plan strengthens the role of Customs in protecting the security of society by providing excellent services. She noted that the authority is also strengthening the role of the community in reporting Customs crimes and raising awareness of actions that constitute violations in accordance with the Customs law. The official explained that the implementation of the strategic plan witnessed remarkable progress in 2020. “GAC continues to support the national economy by facilitating Customs procedures and speeding up the passage of goods through import and export processes,” al-Jasmi said, adding that automation and the introduction of electronic services have eased the clearance proceedings for imports and exports. “Al-Nadeeb, which is an electronic system to clear the procedures of all Customs transactions that take place between GAC and partners from government agencies and private entities, aims to to create an environment of co-operation between Customs and the government and the private sectors. Also, it encourages the private sector to adhere to the laws and regulations in force in the country,” she added.More Related News
