FIFA World Cup qualifiers: A day after Cristiano Ronaldo was booked for showing dissent following a disallowed winner in Portugal's 2-2 draw at Serbia, the UEFA said the controversy could have been avoided had VAR been used.
UEFA on Monday said Cristiano Ronaldo's goal in the World Cup qualifier between Portugal and Serbia would have stood had the two football associations agreed to use the goal-line technology. Ronaldo was denied a clear winner after which he stomped off the pitch in their 2-2 draw on Saturday. The Portugal captain got booked for dissent after his stoppage-time effort in the Group A fixture at Serbia was cleared by Stefan Mitrovic after the ball had crossed the line as shown by television replays. With no Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in place to review the incident, match officials waved play on and a livid Ronaldo left the pitch seconds before the final whistle as he also threw away the captain's armband while heading towards the tunnel.More Related News
