Collector K. Senthil Raj has appealed to the drivers to create ‘accident-free Thoothukudi’ by strictly following road safety rules.
Addressing the road safety awareness programme organised here on Wednesday, he said the district had been selected as the Best Road Safety District of Tamil Nadu in 2020 thanks to the cooperation of road-users, particularly drivers of heavy vehicles. Every citizen should follow the road safety regulations to retain this title in 2021 and the years to come.
Since the World Health Organisation had set the target of achieving ‘zero fatal accident’ by 2030 through a range of measures, every road user should accept this clarion call by following the road safety norms.
“As the Chief Minister has exhorted the Collectors and the Superintendents of Police to take all possible measures to curb fatal road accidents, a slew of steps are being taken including making the roads motorable and safer,” Dr. Senthil Raj said, appealing to the parents not to allow their under-age children to drive the vehicles.
Superintendent of Police L. Balaji Saravanan and Regional Transport Officer Vinayagam were present.
