AgenciesWashington/Berlin Dr Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, said Monday that the state of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States is a âmixed bagâ entering the holiday season and that Americans should get their vaccine booster shots as soon as they are eligible. In Berlin, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, the German doctor who chairs the World Medical Association, has also called for the widespread use of Covid-19 vaccine booster shots, as a debate rages in Germany over how to vaccinate millions of vulnerable people before winter sets in.âItâs a mixed bag,â Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told McClatchy in an interview. âI feel good that the cases, the hospitalisations and the deaths are coming down. Iâm still concerned that we have 64 million people who are eligible to be vaccinated who have not been vaccinated.New data on vaccine boosters out of Israel provide a strong case for people to get the additional shots as soon as they are eligible, Fauci said. âPeople will make their individual choice, but I think if you look at the data, it would be suggested that when you are eligible, that you should get vaccinated with your boost.âMeanwhile, Dr Frank Ulrich Montgomery said: âEveryone who was fully vaccinated six months ago should get a booster shot soon,â Montgomery told the newspapers of the Funke media group in remarks published on Tuesday. He said a new, centralized vaccination campaign was needed in Germany this autumn.
