‘Coolie’: Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj film ropes in Pooja Hegde

Produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures, ‘Coolie’ also stars Akkineni Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir

The makers of Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, have announced a new addition to the film’s stellar cast. Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, announced that Pooja Hegde has joined the highly-anticipated Tamil film.

Sun Pictures confirmed the development through a poster. It remains unknown if the actor is playing a female lead or if she’s set to appear in a cameo. An official announcement is awaited.

The stellar cast of Coolie includes Kannada star Upendra, Telugu superstar Akkineni Nagarjuna, Malayalam’s Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran.

Lokesh has confirmed that Coolie will not be part of his popular film universe called the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which includes movies such as Kaithi, Vikram and Leo. Anirudh Ravichander will compose music for the movie while Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer. Anbariv Masters will do the stunt choreography.

Recently, Lokesh was upset that the making of a scene from the film was leaked on social media. The video showed actor Nagarjuna shooting in Vishakhapatnam. “Two months of hard work by many people have gone in vain because of one recording. I humbly request everyone not to engage in such practices,” he had said.

In April 2024, the makers revealed the film’s title with a special video featuring Rajinikanth. In the video, the superstar utters a famous dialogue from his 1982 film Ranga. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also working for Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster film directed by Nelson. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film will have music from Anirudh Ravichander.
