The novel Langya Henipavirus has infected 35 people in the Shandong and Henan provinces of China. Twitter, however, reacted to the grim news with hilarious memes.
In a more grim development, a new type of animal-derived Henipavirus has infected people in the Shandong and Henan provinces of China, according to official media reports. The development came on Tuesday when 35 cases of the virus were reported. It is called the novel Langya Henipavirus (LayV) and was first detected in the northeastern provinces of Shendong and Henan in 2018. It was officially detected late last week.
The new type of Henipavirus was found in throat swab samples from febrile patients in eastern China. The symptoms reported so far are fever, irritability, cough, anorexia, myalgia, nausea, headache and vomiting.
