Chennai YouTuber arrested for swindling money under guise of renovating temple granted bail

Karthik Gopinath, a YouTuber from Chennai, was arrested by the police for allegedly swindling money he had collected under the guise of renovating a temple. He was granted bail on June 8, after his council said that the collected money was in a different account.
YouTuber Karthik Gopinath from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was arrested for allegedly collecting money using his channel ‘Ilaya Bharatham’ and the website, Milaap, for renovating Madurakali Amman temple. He was arrested based on a complaint filed by the temple authorities.
Chennai Police slapped Sections 409 and 420 of the IPC against him. As his bail hearing was pending in the lower court, Karthik Gopinath approached the Madras High Court.
His council stated that the money collected was in a different account, while police sought judicial custody of Karthik Gopinath to find out who else was involved. The court ordered the magistrate to decide on his bail. Karthik Gopinath was granted conditional bail on Wednesday, June 8.
