Calling the Hijab row in Karnataka a "non-issue", Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said that the protests over the issue are being carried out on political support.

Tensions prevailed at some educational institutions in Udupi, Shivamogga, Bagalkote and other parts of Karnataka as protests as students wearing hijab and saffron shawls clashed with each other.
The Union minister said that one should not take law in their hands. "If there is a disturbance in law and order, then police had to handle it indeed," ANI quoted him as saying.
In January, six Muslim students of government-run PU College in Udupi, who attended classes wearing hijab or headscarves, were asked to leave the campus for not adhering to the dress code. Other students began wearing saffron shawls as a sign of protest against the Muslim students' adherence to headscarves.
