According to a report, Camilla will wear the Queen Mother's 'priceless' Kohinoor crown after Charles becomes the King.
Queen Elizabeth II recently marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the British throne. The 95-year-old, the world's oldest and longest-reigning monarch, expressed a ‘sincere wish’ that Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, should be known as “Queen Consort” when her son succeeds her as expected.
Soon after the announcement, the Daily Mail reported that the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, will have the Queen Mother’s ‘priceless’ diamond crown when Charles becomes the King. The crown boasts a platinum frame and is set with 2,800 diamonds including the Kohinoor.
The Kohinoor Crown was created in 1937 for the coronation of King George VI. Queen Elizabeth (later called Queen Mother) wore it for the ceremony. The crown is currently on display at the Tower of London.
The Kohinoor (Koh-i-Noor) is a 105.6-carat diamond and was found in Southern India in the 14th century. The diamond was ceded to Queen Victoria in 1849. Since then, it has been a part of the British Crown jewels. It is also the subject of a historic ownership dispute and claimed by at least four countries, including India.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles thanked Queen Elizabeth II for her support and congratulated her on her long years of service. “We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish,'' he said.
