The Calcutta High Court on Monday adjourned for a week hearing in a PIL that questioned the Election Commission's premise to hold bye-election to Bhabanipur assembly constituency, where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting. The petitioner claimed that the EC had said in a press note that it decided to hold bye-election in the Bhabanipur seat "considering the constitutional exigency and special request from State of West Bengal". The bypoll to the seat in south Kolkata is scheduled to be held on September 30. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Rajesh Bharadwaj said it will hear the matter again on September 20.More Related News
