Tourist bus carrying college students overturns on NH 66 Bypass, injuring three; driver suspected of speeding or dozing off.
A tourist bus that was ferrying over 30 college students from Coimbatore to Varkala, veered off the Palarivattom-Vyttila NH 66 Bypass stretch, rammed a tree on the central median near Chakkaraparambu and overturned, in the early hours of Saturday.
Three people were injured, including the driver Muniswami, who is suspected to either having dozed off or was driving beyond the speed limit. A student Nallathamby and a teacher Shalini who too were injured, were admitted to a private hospital nearby. Their condition is reported to be stable.
The other passengers escaped with minor bruises, in the accident that occurred in the highly-accident-prone stretch. Traffic was restored after the bus was towed away to the service road.
