Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came out in support of her brother Rahul Gandhi, as he geared up to appear before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in the National Herald case.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra posted a message on Facebook in support of her brother Rahul Gandhi ahead of his appearance before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case on Monday.
“Police barricades, the ED’s empty threats, sticks and water cannons cannot stop the storm of truth. The indomitable voice of truth is called Rahul Gandhi,” she wrote in Hindi.
Later in the day, she joined Rahul Gandhi as he led a hundreds-strong procession on his way to the ED office in Delhi for questioning in the National Herald money laundering case.
Flanked by Priyanka Gandhi, Congress MPs and senior party leaders, Rahul Gandhi started from the Congress office on Akbar Road at the head of a large convoy of supporters to protest against the summonses to him in what the party alleges to be a false case.
The ED will record the Gandhi scion’s statement under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The probe pertains to alleged financial irregularities in the Congress-promoted Young Indian that owns the National Herald newspaper.
Ahead of the Congress party’s protest march, Delhi Police imposed provisions of Section 144 CrPC to prohibit assembly and entry of people on roads leading to the ED headquarters in Pravaratan Bhawan on A P J Abdul Kalam Road. Several Congress workers who had gathered for the march were also detained.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi’s brother-in-law Robert Vadra also came out in his support, saying he will be exonerated from all "baseless accusations".
