'Avoid unilateral actions to change status quo': India expresses concern over Taiwan
India Today
India has expressed concern over recent developments in Taiwan and has urged maximum restraint.
India on Friday expressed concern over recent developments in Taiwan, following Chinese drills around the island, and urged both sides to exercise restraint.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, like many other countries, India too is concerned about this development in Taiwan.
"We urge the exercise of restraint, avoidance of unilateral actions to change the status quo, de-escalation of tensions and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region," Bagchi said.
The MEA spokesperson further said that India's relevant policies are well-known and consistent. They do not require reiteration, he added.
This comes after a major escalation in Taiwan after the island detected 21 Chinese military aircraft and 6 Chinese naval ships in and around the Taiwan Strait on Thursday.
