In the last 24 hours, Ahmedabad reported 48 new Covid-19 cases, the highest daily count in 97 days. Gujarat, on the other hand, crossed the 100-mark with 111 fresh infections.
Ahmedabad on Wednesday reported 48 new Covid-19 cases, marking the highest daily count in 97 days. The active tally in the city stood at 245.
On the other hand, with 111 fresh infections, Gujarat also crossed the 100 cases mark after 97 days. Of the new cases, 25 were reported from Vadodara, 8 from Surat, seven from Rajkot city, 5 from Gandhinagar and Valsad respectively.
Notably, Ahmedabad accounted for 45 percent of the state's tally.
On the recovery front, 23 patients were discharged in Ahmedabad, taking the active tally to 245 in the city. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in Gujarat stood at 445.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has started public testing facilities at bus stations and railway station as the city is witnessing surge in Covid-19 cases.
A senior AMC official said, "In the last two months, Ahmedabad witnessed less than 10 cases daily, now we are witnessing over 40 cases.”
“We are now setting up testing camps at public places like bus stations and railway stations. Random checking will be done of people coming from outside. We have alerted all public and private hospitals to get enough stocks of medicine. We are increasing testing as well,” said the AMC official.
