Aamir Khan has opened up about the viral Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha trend. He asked people to forgive him if he has hurt them.
Aamir Khan is returning to films after four years with Laal Singh Chaddha. Directed by Advait Chandan and written by Eric Roth and Atul Kulkarni, LSC is one of the most anticipated films of the year. It is all set to release on August 11, 2022. Days before the release of his film, Laal Singh Chaddha found itself in the middle of an online storm when a section of netizens called for its boycott. Aamir has now addressed the trolling by saying that he is regretful if he has hurt anyone’s sentiments.
The boycott trend against Laal Singh Chaddha began after a section of netizens dug out Aamir Khan's 2015 interview, where he said that his then wife Kiran Rao had suggested they move countries because of "growing intolerance." Talking about the backlash that the film received before its release, the actor said at a media event in Delhi, “I am just keeping my fingers crossed and praying to the almighty, and I am having faith in my audience. Agar maine kisi ka dil dukhaaya hai kisi cheez se toh mujhe us baat ka dukh hai, main kisi ka dil nahi dukhaana chahta hun. Jin jinko film nahi dekhni hai, main us baat ki izzat karunga, aur kya keh sakte hain (If I have hurt someone's heart with something, I feel sad for that, I don't want to hurt anyone. Those who don't wish to see the film, I will respect their decision. What else can I say)."
He continued, "Lekin main chahunga ki zyada se zyada log film dekhein, humne badi mehnat se film banayi hai. Sirf main nahi hun film mein, film jo banti hai woh, saikdo logo ki mehnat se banti hai, I hope people like it (But I would want that more and more people watch the film, we have made it with a lot of hard work. I am not the only person in the film, the films that we make, efforts of hundreds of people ho into it, I hope people like it)."
Earlier also, Aamir Khan had reacted to this trend as he said that it does 'hurt' him when people talk about boycotting Bollywood and Laal Singh Chaddha. "Yes, I feel sad. Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their heart, they believe that I am someone who doesn't like India. In their hearts they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. That's not the case. Please don't boycott my film. Please watch my film," said Aamir.
Talking about Laal Singh Chaddha, it is the official Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, featuring Tom Hanks. The Advait Chandan directorial also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. It marks the Bollywood debut of South actor Naga Chaitanya. Laal Singh Chaddha was earlier scheduled for Baisakhi release, but the makers postponed the film's release date to August 11, 2022.
