Widespread rainfall expected in coastal Tamil Nadu, with heavy rain predicted in 10 districts on Friday, followed by cooler temperatures. Chennai too may receive light rainfall in some areas on February 27, 2025 and rain intensity may increase marginally on February 28.
Fairly widespread rainfall will occur over coastal parts of Tamil Nadu from Thursday (February 27, 2025) and move to south Tamil Nadu from March 1. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted 10 districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall in one or two places on Friday.
Moist northeasterlies prevailing over the region would influence the wet spell till March 3. Thursday recorded rainfall in few places over south Tamil Nadu. Cheranmahadevi in Tirunelveli district recorded 3 cm of rainfall, which was the heaviest in the State during the last 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.
However, dry weather prevailed over northern parts. The weather pattern in north Tamil Nadu may change from March 1 with the RMC predicting scattered rainfall over northern parts, Puducherry and Karaikal.
The wet weather would mean a drop in day temperature for five days from February 28 to March 3 over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
On February 28, 10 districts, including Thoothukudi, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Madurai have chances of isolated heavy rainfall. It would be south Tamil Nadu’s turn to receive fairly widespread rainfall from March 1. Six districts — Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Kanniyakumari, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar — are likely to get isolated rainfall on Saturday.
Chennai too may receive light rainfall in some areas on Thursday and rain intensity may increase marginally on Friday. The maximum temperature may hover around 33 degree Celsius on February 28.
Rainfall prospects would gradually reduce from March 2 and dry weather may return over the State from March 4.
